Emulation Initiated!
27th November 2025
We apologise for the resumption of your normal service
So a friend nudged me to use Ruffle to make the games on here playable. Should be quite easy.
Which, after a sustained bout of procrastination, I have done.
You may find you need to wait a little before the game starts, and sometimes you need to click for it to play.
Of course, most external resources have gone - which mostly means leaderboards (don't bother trying to submit scores, the game may get stuck). Even the ones I implemented locally seem not to work, although I suppose there's at least a remote possibility that I'll fix those.
Unfortunately, emulation of a complex system is rarely perfect. My initial testing suggests that while some games play fine, something I sometimes did with filters hasn't been implemented. In some cases that doesn't matter, particularly, but in others it can make the game hard or unplayable. Potentially, this may only be evident some way into the game.
Because the Ruffle player may be updated, I have elected to keep all the games set to use it, and will document their usability below.
I'm only doing limited testing, so please take this with caution. If you find something is broken, or conversely something broken has been fixed, please let me know in a comment, and I'll update the table.
Game playability testing
| Game | notes |
|---|---|
| Gravity Lander | Awkward. An unfortunate failure in the background render makes level 3 very hard. |
| Ghost Writer | Playable. At least, it appears functional - I only checked level 1. |
| Fly Away Home | Borderline playable. Some cosmetic touches are missing. The background blurring effect isn't rendered, which makes the game ugly and the action harder to see. |
| Cube Turpin | Playable. Many background effects are broken, making the view a little bland. |
| Turing Turns | Playable. A colour fading effect doesn't work, not a big deal. |
| 1D | Playable. Map display in the early levels renders without a background, I didn't test beyond those. |
| Magic Layers | Completely unplayable. The piece rendering/overlay display is completely broken. |
| Artistic Differences | Playable? I played all the way through and the only issue I noticed is the background in the 'frogs' level isn't fully rendered. There may be subtle bugs with some types of difference not rendering properly, but this is hard to check. Some levels are quite hard. |
| Silver Lining | Playable. Seems fully functional. |
| Distortion Factor | Playable. Honestly, this surprised me. |
| Rocket Racers | Playable? Missiles pass through terrain, I believe this is an emulation issue. But vehicle collision works so you can race, at least. |
| Big Fish | Playable. Pondweed in the background isn't rendered, no big deal. |
| Piu Piu | Playable. But I think a border isn't rendered, which makes the game slightly harder. |
| Mathsspin deluxe | Playable |
| Mathspin | Playable |
| The Minute Passage | Broken. |
